Steady light (Torch) in 'Photo' camera mode

The Steady Light (torch) feature turns your device's flash into a continuous light. Because it stays on, you can see how your subject is lit before you shoot, and brighten dark scenes in low light. It is available in Photo and LowLight camera mode.

Steady Light works independently from the classic Flash and can be used with any Flash mode (Auto, On, Off). To learn more, see the 'Taking photos with Steady Light (torch) active' section below.

Enabling Steady Light

To activate Steady Light (the torch feature), long-press the Flash button.

Adjusting Steady Light intensity

You can set the brightness of the torch by dragging the Steady Light intensity slider next to the torch icon. Swipe along the slider to the right to increase brightness, or to the left to decrease it.

Taking photos with Steady Light (torch) active

When Steady Light is enabled, you can still control the flashlight when taking photos. This means you can keep Steady Light on as a source of continuous light or switch to Flash if needed.

  • If Steady Light (torch) is active and Flash is disabled: the flashlight won’t be used during the capture, but Steady Light (torch) will remain on for continuous lighting.

  • If Steady Light is active and Flash is set to Auto: the flashlight may be triggered based on the ambient lighting. For example, if the Steady Light is set to low or the environment is dark, the Flash may activate automatically during capture.

  • If Steady Light is active and Flash is set to On: the Flash fires when you take the photo, regardless of how bright or dark the surroundings are. Steady Light turns back on right after.
