Exposure Bracketing (EB) captures a series of 3, 5, or 7 photos at different exposure levels with a single tap of the Shutter button, so you capture detail in both the bright highlights and the dark shadows. You then merge the series in dedicated software to create one final image with a wider dynamic range — closer to what your eye actually sees in a high-contrast scene.
Key features of Exposure Bracketing.
- Availability — part of the premium feature bundle.
- File formats — works with every photo format: JPEG, HEIF, TIFF, RAW, and ProRAW.
- Camera modes — available in Photo and LowLight.
- Lenses — works with all lenses on your device.
- Number of photos — capture 3, 5, or 7 photos with a single tap of the Shutter button.
- Asymmetric brackets — with Advanced Manual Exposure Bracketing you can set over- and under-exposure independently, for "lopsided" brackets such as -2, 0, +1.
Enabling Exposure Bracketing.
- On the Capture Screen, open the Control Panel.
- Tap the exposure-mode button labeled ISO & Shutter (its icon reflects the current exposure mode).
- In the sub-menu, select EB (Exposure Bracketing).
You can also enable EB directly from the Manual Controls panel on the Capture Screen when in M or SI mode:
- Press and hold the first button of the Manual Controls panel for one second (this button is hidden in automatic A mode).
- In the menu that appears, select EB.
Adjusting the exposure brackets.
- Tap the EB button on the Manual Controls panel so it shows a blue background.
- On the Exposure Bracketing dial, drag the outer blue bracket markers to set the maximum over- and under-exposure for the series.
By default the brackets move symmetrically: set the under-exposure bracket to -2 EV and the over-exposure bracket moves to +2 EV automatically.
You can also shift the whole series by setting an EV value other than 0 for the middle exposure — swipe the dial to move the center.
To set under- and over-exposure independently, turn on Advanced Manual Exposure Bracketing (AMEB) in ProCamera Settings — see Adjustable Exposure Bracketing parameters below.
Adjustable Exposure Bracketing parameters.
You can customize how Exposure Bracketing behaves in ProCamera Settings:
- Open ProCamera Settings.
- In the Photo Mode section, tap Exposure Bracketing.
Two settings are available:
- AMEB (Advanced Manual Exposure Bracketing) — allows you to capture asymmetric brackets such as -2, 0, +1 EV; setting the under- and over-exposure independently.
-
Number of photos — choose how many photos each bracket captures: 3, 5, or 7.
- 3 photos — recommended for handheld shooting or scenes with motion. The shorter capture sequence helps reduce the risk of camera shake and subject movement, making the images easier to align and merge in post-production.
- 5 or 7 photos — best for scenes with extreme differences in brightness, and for low-light, static scenes. Avoid camera movement or use a tripod: all bracketed photos must align, so any motion in the scene or camera shake is a problem.
Merging the bracketed photos.
ProCamera captures the bracketed series; the merge into a single image happens in dedicated photo-editing software such as Adobe Photoshop, Lightroom, or Capture One. This is best done on a desktop computer.
For the best merge quality, capture your brackets in RAW or ProRAW — these formats give the merge software far more highlight and shadow detail to work with than JPEG or HEIF.
