Video: Frame Rate and Resolution

When recording video, choosing the right frame rate and resolution helps you achieve the desired balance between smooth motion, image detail, and file size.

Resolution

You can choose between different video resolutions depending on your needs. Available resolutions depend on your device and the selected frame rate. Higher resolutions capture more detail but also require more storage space and processing power.

VGA 480
640 x 480 px
(lowest resolution, smallest files, 4:3 aspect ratio)

HD 720
1280 x 720 px

HD 1080
1920 x 1080 px

UHD 4K
3840 x 2160 px

There are additional options that provide high resolution in combination with high frame rates (HFR):

Frame Rate

The frame rate determines how many frames are captured per second (fps) when recording a video. Available frame rates vary depending on your device.

24 FPS

Traditional cinematic frame rate with the classic film look.

25 FPS Recommended in 50 Hz regions to reduce flicker from mains-powered lighting.
30 FPS

Recommended for everyday recording, balanced smoothness and file size.

48 FPS

Not ideal for low-light conditions. Captures motion more clearly than 24, 25 or 30 fps, creating a modern, hyper-realistic look that differs from classic cinema.

50 FPS

Not ideal for low-light conditions. Suitable for 50 Hz regions (PAL) and reduces motion blur in fast-moving scenes.

60 FPS

Not ideal for low-light conditions. Suitable for NTSC regions and reduces motion blur in fast-moving scenes.

HFR Frame Rates

96 FPS

Not ideal for low-light conditions. Ideal for smooth slow-motion playback.

100 FPS

Not ideal for low-light conditions. Ideal for smooth slow-motion playback.

120 FPS

Not ideal for low-light conditions. Ideal for high-quality smooth slow-motion playback.

Not ideal for low-light conditions, best used in very-bright lighting. Maximum slow-motion effect.
