Auto-Focus

ProCamera can focus automatically, or let you set focus by hand. This article covers the automatic methods.

For precise control over focus, see Manual focus.

Auto-Focus

There are two methods to allow the app to automatically set the focus:

  • Fully-auto Focus (AUTO mode)

  • Focus Square

Note that auto-focus is supported by any exposure mode: automatic A mode, semi-automatic SI mode and manual M mode.

Fully-auto Focus

By default, when you open the app, it works in fully-auto Focus and Exposure mode. The focus and exposure controls are positioned at the center of the viewfinder and disappear after a few seconds. Just aim the camera at the scene or object you want to capture, and the app will automatically adjust the camera settings.

Note that the fully-auto Focus and Exposure (AUTO mode) can be used in any exposure mode: automatic A mode, semi-automatic SI mode, and manual M mode. Therefore, if you enable semi-automatic SI or manual M mode without enabling any of the manual controls, the app will still operate in the fully-automatic Focus and Exposure (AUTO mode).

The same applies to the use of the Focus and Exposure control elements. If manual exposure or focus controls are not enabled, the camera will set these parameters for you.

Focus Square

Use the blue Focus Square to focus on a specific subject. You can use it together with the Exposure Circle or on its own.

Using the Focus Square together with the Exposure Circle:

To move both the focus and exposure control elements to the same position on the viewfinder, simply tap on a spot. The app will then automatically adjust the Exposure and Focus settings to the most suitable values for that area in the scene.

Using the Focus Square separately from the Exposure Circle:
  • To use the focus and exposure control elements independently, tap the center of the viewfinder until you see that the focus and exposure control elements are slightly separated. Then, move each element to the desired position on the viewfinder.

  • Drag the control elements from their current location to use them separately, and place each where you want it. By default, the Focus Square has priority and moves first.
